Vineyard House - Contemporary Cotswold Passivhaus
This design for a contemporary passivhaus within a vineyard setting sits in the Cotswold’s AONB and within a conservation area. The scheme won planning permission due to the sustainable contemporary design that responds to the character of the local area and to the topography of the site. The lower level of the property houses the equipment for the vineyard, wine storage cellar, sauna, and gym, with the living accommodation on the upper level offering views across the local landscape. There is an open fronted parking area tucked below the house, and lift access to the first floor, to ensure that the house remains accessible. The thick walls provide high levels of insulation, with large south facing windows that maximise solar gain. Shading prevents overheating in summer months and opposing windows provide the opportunity for passive ventilation.
